Sometimes I wish I was a software pirate. I bet the dodgy versions of Windows dont get these problems.

On my other machine I have Windows 7 Upgrade edition. It is legal, legitimate and licensed - as the machine also has a Windows XP Pro license.

I followed the guides online which used the 'double install' method to clean install an upgrade copy without having to go to the faff of installing XP first. At first, it worked.

Today when I turned the PC on, it was bleating at me that I was a victim of counterfeiting that that Windows was not genuine

any ideas?

Phone up microsoft and curse at them. Might resolve matters, might make you feel better, definitely keep you amused for a few minutes. Sort of win-win.

Doesn't it give you the option of activating? Just re-activate through phone, or internet if it'll let you.

Not had the problem myself, have only really seen Windows Vista/7 deactivate itself when there are underlying hardware/software problems. Has your CMOS been resetting itself, or maybe picking up the incorrect time?

I have had terrible troubles activating windows in the last few days myself.

One on a clients PC. It was spyware ridden and was easier to reinstall than fix so instead of using the disk which came with the pc from the manufacturer: QTech, I made a Windows XP Home OEM disk with the latest updates and service packs and they wouldn;t activate it so I had to reformat the system and install exactly the same software but an older version and manually update it.
