Just woke up started my PC up as normal whilst I go and make a fresh cup of coffee, Windows will no longer boot. :( wouldnt start in safe mode or Last known good config either. I had issues with Belkin software and and recently had to reinstall as the belkin software doesnt work properly with X64 Vista.

I suspect my problems are either down to a Windows updates or a failing hdd, or an issue with RAID. I am running a asus a8n32-sli board with raid 0, currently. As my machine could not boot in any way, I deleted my array the bios now detected the drivers as 3rd and 4th IDE drives.

Next I inserted my Windows Vista disk. Now this is what is puzzling me. Its only showing 1 hdd. I have 2 SATA drivers installed (2xmaxtor 250GB) I clear the partition and create a new partition but then get no futher with the message 'Windows is unabe to find a system volume that meets its criteria'

I have now hit a bit of a brick wall, suggestions please.

This normally means windows cannot find a partition that is bootable - check your bios is set to boot up from the hard disk you're selecting during setup. Also use the windows setup itself to create a partition to install on.
 
I think ive sorted it now.

Went into bios.
Advanced > onboard devices > Silicon 3121 mode >
Changed this to SATA 2.

As I had removed the array and using seperate disks I thought this may help.

So

I thought it may be booting from the wrong hdd.

Disconnected 2nd Sata drive.

repartitioned using the vista setup. Its now allowed me to reinstall windows.

Something odd occured when windows setup went though.
I noticed the RED light was on on my x1950. 6 pin cable was plugged in, ODD! Restarted its gone off. In windows now installing 38 updates, and reinstalling apps. Gonna stick to 2 seperate hdds, I have a feeling that there is an issue between mediasheld RAID and Vista, or there is an issue with one of the drives.

I am gonna run some checks on the system on the HDD. I have the Powermax tools on a disk, will use this.

I get the feeling that my system is slowly dying, Ive had this setup for 2 years now, time for an upgrade to core2 I think soon :)

I get the feeling I have still to get to the root of the original problems.
