Ok having major issues with windows installing in the background the above AMD driver, I have used ddu and set windows to not install third part drivers yet every day I come back to my PC it has reinstalled them and I cant open Radeon control panel as the version is too low.

I have never encountered this issue in all my years with PC's and its just suddenly started happening. any idea ?

I’ve been having the same issue with my 6800xt, bit annoying. I’ve done a ddu recently since turning off windows update from updating drivers and it’s not happened since.

if it does it again, I’m reinstalling windows, and turning off the drivers update for windows, and starting fresh

Problem I have is I use my machine for work as well so the ball ache of reinstalling windows is just not worth considering as I have to reinstall all the frameworks, ide's, sdk's etc for multiple languages and dev. I have setup a policy to ignore drivers and also edited registry, lets see what happens. This started happening after I limited windows update bandwidth to 0.7Mb thinking it was MB so I have set it to 7Mb now as well, I wonder if somewhere in the update pipeline it wasn't able to get the right info. I guess we will see tomorrow.

Hate Windows for this. If you have Windows Pro you can use the group policy to stop this happening all together. Windows stops adding drivers to the download list.

If you're running Windows 10 Pro, the easiest way to stop getting driver updates from Windows Update is using the Local Group Policy Editor with these steps:

  1. Use the Windows key + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command.
  2. Type gpedit.msc and click OK to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
  3. Browse the following path:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update

  4. On the right side, double-click the Do not include drivers with Windows Update policy.

    regedit-windows-update-dont-include-drivers.jpg

  5. Select the Enabled option.

    donot-include-drivers-windows-update-policy.jpg

  6. Click Apply.
  7. Click OK.
After completing the steps, your device will continue to receive security and other patches, but drivers will be excluded.
