hi gang
i decided to overclock my mobile sempron 3000 the other night got it from 1.8ghz to 2.16ghz :D and now the verison of xp i got on my sata drive will not work it says hal.dll is missing or corupt.
so i installed to a spare ide drive i got and thought i could copy the file over to the sata drive but every time i plug the sata drive in i get "the blue screen of death".
any one else had this??

have you tried system restore.
i know rolling back is a pain but if its the only thing left...

Before you do that, just reduce the overclock. Very often this is only happening because the rig is unstable, and the file is corrupted on loading, not on disk. If you knock off 100MHz there's a better than 50% chance that you will be able to boot OK. You can't copy the file because odds are a Windows update has changed it, or something it accesses.

If you find dropping the overclock doesn't work, then yes, you need to re-install Windows, but just do a repair install.
