Windows licence

Morning all
Bought a lap top of a friend just for browsing and stuff and it came loaded with Ubuntu which I can't get to run properly

I have a boxed copy of Windows 7 at home that I run on my desktop, am I allowed to load it on my laptop as well?

Only if the laptop has a licence for it (check the bottom of a COA sticker).
You buy a licence to run windows on a single PC.
If there is no licence of the laptop, install the trial and wait for some cheap offers on Windows 10
