Hi folks i have been using windows Live mail a load of years no hassle with 4 Gmail accounts just noticed now all my accounts are showing authentication failed when i try to bring in any emails
i can log into Gmail via web on the separate accounts and can log into them all with no problems
i had similar problems a couple of years ago and had to turn of some sort of 2 step authentication that curded it but now the latest Gmail does not have this option any more

Switch your client to something that supports the newer security protocols. Windows Live Mail hasn't been supported for years.

If you go into your google settings (Manage your google profile) > Security. You need to use the 'App passwords' section to set up one with access to your Mail and use that within the client that doesn't support OAuth. If you don't have the 'App paswords' option, you need to first enable 2-Step Verification (on that same screen).

This happened because google deprecated and then removed the 'less secure applications' piece so you need an app specific password for anything that was working before that isn't now.

You might need an app password. You need to turn on 2FA and then generate an app password then use that to authenticate in windows live mail.

got it sorted thanks folks
:)

You welcome.

I would be very tempted to move client as well. Windows Live Mail hasn't even been active for years either and is a horrible client.
And what's provided in windows 10 and (possibly) above is complete garbage and can't be considered an email client because it no longer works properly.

Windows mail isn’t garbage. What more do you want for free? Subscribe to office if you want outlook or go get another free client.
Apart from the fact that it is 100% broken as I couldn't restore one email account as it throws an error every time even though there are NO issues at the providers end (now) and all the reviews at the time were slating the mail & calendar app for EXACTLY that issue (and I can't really trust most of the current reviews because most don't seem to have any relation to the mail & calendar app).

At least thunderbird works as intended.

oh in that case then yes it's time to move. :) I haven't used it in years but don't see why it wouldn't work with POP or IMAP.

I have had to abandon Live Mail on my PC because of the trouble with Gmail, I use Thunderbird now and it is excellent and it works with POP and IMAP
