Panting like a fiend
Hi

I've just (at long last) moved over to my new Windows 11 PC, but I'm now struggling to move my emails over to it.
I've been using Windows Love Mail and have a huge store of old emails, I've managed to pull them into sotrage folders and transfer them over to the new machine but now I need to import them into a modern, supported client and this is where I'm running into trouble.

Outlook doesn't seem to support doing it at all unless you've got it installed on the same machine as Windows Love mail from what I can see, and Thunderbirds recommended method doesn't seem to work at all (importexport tool isn't compatible with modern thunderbird), and I can't seem to get the importexport ng addon to see the files, I'm fairly sure I'm doing something stupid but thought I'd ask on here before I go mad(der than user) as I've spent about 90 minutes banging my head against a wall now.

I love moving to new machines, always such fun and games (I'm currently trying to also get my mic working, it worked fine at first but something has changes and it's not got any sound now)

What file type are the storage folders? I've just checked my copy of Thunderbird and there is a way to import messages from Outlook. Could you not set the account up in Outlook, then import the emails to Outlook from the folders then use Thunderbird to import from Outlook?

I saw this thread yesterday and I’m absolutely shocked at the zero response until now.

It’s a very long time since using windows live mail. Let this be a time to say don’t wait to move next time.

As above you might need to hop through some apps to get there. I don’t even know if the accounts I have would even be able to use windows live mail to test. Possibly this method might work if you copy the folder to the pc with outlook on:

Export Windows Live Mail Through Drag and Drop Method: –

Not used live mail
Or thunderbird in a long time
Could have a look at hekasoft free backup/restore
It can deal with a few softwares
And formats
I used to use mozbackup for thunderbird
But hekasoft is lot more powerful/versatile

If you're still struggling with this, you have the option to use a local IMAP server. It's probably more than 10 years since I last did this, but it can work well. You simply copy your emails to the local server, using an IMAP connection from your old email client, then connnect your new email client to the IMAP server and download the messages.

Note that doing this with an online server has risks, and will be slower. Hotmail/Outlook will delete old messages (I think anything older than 15 years?), so if you upload them they'll be gone. I would only recommend using a local server, and copying the messages to it - not moving them to it.

Dear Werewolf, I would like to suggest third-party software like Softaken Windows Live Mail to Outlook Converter which is one of the best ways to export Windows Live Mail data to MS Outlook because everyone knows that Windows Live Mail saves email in .EML format when using MS Outlook stores .PST format data. The tool converts all .EML files to .PST format without losing any text, attachments, online titles, cc, bcc etc. Just download the free trial version and then make yourself happy by grabbing a license key to take advantage of all the features.
