Windows MCE alternatives?

MediaPortal :D You can tell these dudes coded the amazin XBMC. Takes a little setting up but once running its what a media centre should be. MCE sucks in comparison.

Media Centre- takes about 2 minutes to show anything, and dog slow. Collection of FLAC, Mp3, MPC and ogg titles. Using ogg/flac plugin for media player.
I got that with the 945G graphics in Vista, but not in XP. I 'upgraded' to a 7100GS in my HTPC and MCE is fine on XP now - not slowdowns at all. nVIDIA's Vista drivers are still poor enough for the 7100GS not being able to quite cope with 1920x1200 while watching live or recorded TV (noticeably jerky while in full screen), but like I said XP is perfectly fine now.

MP has never worked at 1920x1200 on any of the PCs I've tried it on (instant crash), so I've never played with it much. Kinda off-putting.

Ok, clean isntall of WinXP Pro, install of MediaPortal.

Fixed the Music being split to pieces in the setup so thats one hurdle over, now a question.

I start a video running and then drop back to the menu so it is minimized. How do I get it back to fullscreen using the remote ??

On MCE you just pressed left then down so it highlighted the window and you could maximise again.

I can't find a way to maximise it once minimised without a mouse ! :D

You seem to know a lot about it squiffy :)

Any idea on how you connect a set top box to it and get it to recognise the channels and change them?

I have managed to get the composite in working but it just sees it as channel 1 at the min and doesn't try to change anything. Do I need to add them all one by one? (its an official MCE remote)

Whoop :)

Does this version work with Ubuntu 7.04? I tried Ubuntu and Linux MCE 1 but it just did nothing on a double click on the installer.

Driver install is a pain too
