I have MCE 2005 installed on my computer which has started to freeze on certain occassions, requiring a press of the reset button to get the computer back to work again. The problem seems to happen in 2 particular instances. Firstly, which it did not more than 2 hours ago, was when I hit the green button of my remote, and tried to navigate to 'My Videos' and reduce the Volume. It totally froze displaying 21 on the volume meter and while trying to open the My Videos menu. After a reset, I sat and watched an episode of The Simpsons, and it ran right to the end, popping up the usual menu when it had finished playing. At this point I dozed off, leaving my computer exactly as it was. The screen went into standby mode after 10 minutes as per usual. However, when I woke up again, the whole thing had totally frozen up; monitor would not come out of standby mode and the keyboard and mouse were both totally unresponsive. Another press of the reset button.
I'm quite puzzled as to what could be causing this problem, whether it be hardware or software. My ATI Radeon drivers have been updated at least once since this problem started, and that hasn't made any difference, so I don't at least think it's a graphics driver problem. Otherwise, I'm totally stumped and not really sure where to start. BTW, I also have another PC with MCE 2005 installed that has a much lower specification, and it doesn't not crash or freeze up like my own computer.
Here are my specs:
Athlon64 X2 3800+ (Undervolted to 1.1 for the last year, never been an issue)
3GB DDR400 RAM all at stock speeds, voltage and latency settings
Asus A8N-SLI Premium board.
Radeon X800XL graphics card with the latest ATI driver for MCE installed.
Also, I don't have a TV card as MCE is used solely for watching videos on my computer (at least just for now!).
Many thanks in advance,
Michael.
