I am working on a Windows ME PC that is booting into Windows but just shows the wall paper, no icons, taskbar or start button. Preesing the windows key has no effect and when I right click on the desktop nothing happens. This happens in safe mode in exactly the same way.
Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete brings up task manager but there is nothing running and no facility to run a new task
Any help appreciated

That sounds really dodgy mate. I'd recommend just starting again from stratch and if you can afford it then get away from Win-ME as it's absolutely horrible!

If system performance is an issue and you can't therefore go down the XP routeyou'd be better trying to pick up a copy of Win 98 Second Edition which you should be able to find at a decent price thesedays,

my mate had this problem once but with a later version of windows - think it was xp home. however i think it is a virus, but it was solved by repairing windows, which should pose no problems unless you use bt broadband which for some reason repair breaks.

Thanks for the replies guys sorry to not repond sooner but I've been taking advantage of the weather here in sunny Northern Ireland :)

I will tell the owner a reinstall of ME is required and try and talk him into upgrading to XP
Thanks
Brian
