Windows Media 10 and internet addresses

WMP10 seems to want to connect to several addresses (as detected by my firewall) when it is run. Even if I just open it without any media it still tries to connect to several IP's.

I can't list these at the moment as I am work but are they all needed and can I block them?

I assume they are for lookups to sites for music info or possibly send my stats to somewhere, but I would be interested in what they do.

I have blocked them before and found that it doesnt affect anything/anything i use. Not sure why they would access these sites everytime media player is turned on, but oh well........
