Howzit guys.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit. Lately I've been trying to use Media Center as it's easier to use with my Microsoft remote then, Windows Media Player 11.

The only problem at the moment is jerky video. :(.

If I play the same video under WMP11 it's perfect however under WMC it jerks every few seconds otherwise it's fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks all. :)

I've been experiencing the same issue :( *subscribes*

I've got the latest version of the Vista Codec Pack installed, and that's it codec wise.

maybe it's creating thumbnails for all your videos? (not sure if it does this when you're watching or not..)

I have the same problem.
It is Nvidia drivers...
All Nvidia drivers since the 8800 GT launch have caused XviD to stutter really badly in Vista Media Centre..!

Bledd I've got vista codces installed. I have a 8800GTS though, not GT.

So, you guys saying there's no fix for this? :(

The answer, as always, is ffdshow! Uninstall all your codecs and install the latest version of ffdshow tryouts. Works like a dream for me :)

Where can I find the latest verion of ffdshow? (I already have a verion of it installed, no idea what version though..

You need to remove all your codecs, including the Vista Codec Pack and any version of ffdshow it installs, making sure you tell it to remove all settings too, if it asks. If it doesn't then there is an option when installing ffdshow to reset its settings, tick it. I've found these codec packs cause nothing but problems, including jerky video. ffdshow is all you need, apart from maybe the Haali Media Splitter for MKV files in WMP, if you use MKV files that is!

Latest version of ffdshow can be found here - http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/ and click the download link on the front page.

Worth a try and I'm confident it will work. :)

Uninstalling everything and only having ffdshow & Haali Media Splitter didnt work.
It is definatly Nvidia drivers, the problem started when I installed my 8800GT so needed to update my drivers to 169.xx ones. My old 8800GTS was fine with previous versions...

169.28 beta, I get this too in Media Centre x64 and using ffd show already. This does seem to be a bug with drivers as it was only introduced recently, or it could be ffd show's latest version. I have stopped using media centre due to this but its all ok through Media player. I thought it may be an issue with x64 codecs.

Just to bump this. I've been having stutter on full screen with mkv's and some AVIs for ages, but i recently downloaded forceware 171.16 for Vista32 and all my problems have been solved. This driver finally make Vista Media Center work properly, and its about time, as its taken a year to make it as good as MCE05.

So just to clarify, all you need to play EVERYTHING is.

Latest ffdshow
171.16 forceware
Haali Media Splitter
and Vista Media Control ( http://damienbt.free.fr )

I tried CoreAVC, but it has trouble in media center.

So forget codec packs, they are just nasty things.

Howzit guys.

So OT but this made me feel right at home :D I miss Durbs. Laaiike schweet bru. :p

As mentioned above I have read that the stuttering issue is driver related. The latest drivers fix the stuttering issue. To add to the above list of codecs to install I believe AC3Filter is a must personally.
