Hi there, i recently completed a new build and used my XP pro disc from a long time back i had lying around. When i come to install items from microsoft it says that the copy of windows is counterfitted?, i mean i havent downloaded it or anything!. I have tried updating WMP from the help>check for updates but it says there isnt any available..currently its wmp8. Can anyone shed some light on this matter?

Thanks Ryan

I have found a lot that when installing windows on OEM machines the key is rejected (It's printed on the PC so defiantly legit). I just ring MS and they give me a legit code. :)

hi its me again..sorry for the confusion but its now come to light that its a copy my friend gave me. Does this mean i have to go pay £50 for a new copy and reinstall everything or is there a way around it?

thanks

BTW, you don't pay for the CD, you pay for the license. I could send you 1,000 CDs tomorrow, and MS wouldn't care.

I wish people would keep saying this nonsense, if you sent 1000 copies of the CD you would be sending 1000 copies of illegal distributed material subject to copyright and you'd be breaking the law. Whether or not you also happen to need a CD key is neither here nor there.
