Windows Media Player 12 - no sound on mkv files

Hello,

I can play BBC iplayer and iTunes and get sound. I can play CDs and VOB files via media player 12 on my Win 7 PC BUT I get no sound with mkv files.

Do I need some extra files loaded please on Win 7?

All works OK on Win XPSP3 and Win Med Player 11

None - I thought WMP was "self contained" and played DVDs etc? Thinking about it I did install ffdshow on the Win XP PC and that does show in the taskbar when I play mkv files on that PC.

Do I need to install ffdshow on Win7 Home Premium / WMP12?

Now works OK - used ffdshow. Will try LAV filters over weekend.
