Windows Media Player problem (Won't play DVD)

Ok guys ever since i reformatted when i put any dvd in my cd player and try and play it through windows media player i get this error "windows media player cannot play dvd video. Open control pannel, and the lower your screen resolution and colour quality settings. To view dvd troubleshooter, click more information"

any ideas what this means? i'm currently using 1024x768 res so it's not exactly high!

anyone help at all?

WMP doesn't have a DVD codec by default - you have to install a third party one... which you did.
