Windows Media Player Shuts down PC

I have narrowed this problem down to WMP. Everytime I open a video (music works fine) in WMP, the program openes and starts to load the video. once the video loads and is just about to play, the whole machine restarts its self with no error messages on screen or in the event viewer. Does anyone have any ideas what may cause this or even better, how to fix this?

Try media player classic or vlc.

Yeah I would install VLC media player and see if the same thing happens.

bad video file? try vlc...

hmm..definitely give VLC a go, also try disabling hardware acceleration in the video decoding, see what happens

Turn off Auto Restart in the system properties of your machine, as if you are getting a BSOD a machine can reboot before you see it.
