windows media RAM hogging

when I open WMP it's throtteling 1 core at 100%, and the RAM usage constantly goes up. i've tried reinstalling it numerous times and it still does it. any ideas to what it could be as i've run out of ideas what to do

Conflicting codecs? Do you have any codec packs installed?

not for WMP only the default ones that come with it on download and the ones that are needed for divx player
