Windows not activating

Hey all,

I'm got new motherboard, cpu, hdd etc and my windows 7 Ultimate won't activate. Every time I try to activate online it says:

"The Product key you typed cannot be used to activate Windows on this computer."

I assume this is due to the new components and my key somehow linking to cd key.

The problem is my friend gave me this copy of Win7 through his MS Partnership account, will he get in trouble if I activate using the phone system, he's from US and I'm from UK...

Any help is much appreciated
