Windows not updating

Hey all as the title suggests for some reason my windows won’t update, I have it set so they don’t update automatically , but when I try download them they just stay stuck at 0% or just fail and it says retry, sometimes when I restart my pc I just get the black screen saying waiting for updates and I have to turn it off and back on again, I really don’t want to have to re install windows if that is possible, any advice would be greatly appreciated , cheers
 
What version of Windows are you running? I am assuming its Windows 10 or 11.

Have you checked event viewer for any errors? normally when Windows update fails it gives you a code which may help.

On Windows 11 you can run the troubleshooter - Open Settings => System => Troubleshoot => Other troubleshooters => Windows update => Run
 
I was having problems with windows 11 not updating, I think it must have been a glitch within windows 11, as suddenly it started updating after pulling out my hair. The small glitches with Windows 11. It's been ok since just a bit slower pulling updates where my windows 11 laptop updates straight away.
