Does anyone know if it's possible to do either of the following in MDM such as intune or meraki on windows phone:
Force data to be off so that 3G/4G cannot be used
OR
Force WIFI to be enabled, disallow turning it off, so that it always takes precedence over data when in wifi range

I need one of those two options, but all i can find is a basic setting to "allow wifi" which isn't much help. Intune has more advanced custom configuration files, but i wouldn't even know where to begin with those....

I've not played with either (only just turned on MDM in 365), but can you force an APN setting change to the handsets? Setting an incorrect data setting would render cellular data unusable.

Here is a really in-depth list of what each OS supports:

https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/...025(v=vs.85).aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

If there's no hook for the MDM provider to use, then the feature cannot be controlled.

Here's the stuff to control data:

and for Wi-Fi:

Wow thanks!

So presumably i can create custom configurations in intune with the above various codes? ....... think i've got a bit of learning to do.

No you can't bud - its one of the downsides of using Intune v's other MDM products - intune is quite limited and doesn't allow the use of custom fields. I know this first hand as I'm currently evaluating EMS (which uses Intune) and comparing it to the product we use (SOTI) it's very limited, even when compared to other MDM vendors.

As far as I'm aware Windows Phone is probably going to be the limitation here - its quite basic what we are allowed to control on it, since I last evaluated it.

Yes you can force Data use to be disabled, but I havn't seen anything that allows you to force WIFI to stay on. I'll double check on monday bud.

ahhh ok, i misunderstood. Thanks :) Although still got learning to do to work out how to force data to be disabled :p I only need one or the other, and data being disabled is the ideal solution.

The easiest thing to do would be to have data disabled on the account at Vodafone/O2/whoever.

I asked the company that sold us the contracts before i started looking into this and they told me that wasn't possible.

These are the WIFI and Cellular options available for Windows Phone devices bud:

There is another option which allows you to configure wireless networks but theres no restriction options in there.

hth bud.

Don't see why that is the case, our corp phones are with Voda and the lesser people get a standard phone/sms SIM, others get full data sim

I would speak to the network directly

Will give that a go, it's o2 business if that matters at all (or rather, if anyone here has dealt with them before in this way...)

Thanks
