As the thread says,I think it's a windows os problem. So when I'm surfing the web or on desktop there's np,but as soon as I go on a game after 30 sec-1min or so the screen freezes, but I can still hear sound as if it was still playing. The pc will sometimes unfreeze back to the desktop, other times I have to go to task manager to stop the game. All the temps for v-card,chip,ram are all ok.

My specs are
Intel i7-4790k
Gigabyte z97x-black edition
Corsair 16gb vengeance pro 2400
750w psu
Evga gtx 650ti ssc

Was the pc rebuilt when doing a fresh install? Has any hardware been removed and replaced or refitted? Fresh install, as in booted from install media and not restored from a drive image? Any recent BIOS changes? Checked for availability of latest drivers? So is the memory or CPU overclocked?

Sorry for late post's but i work nights so only see post's on my break

As i say all but the gtx,psu and hdds are new.I didn't do a fresh install of windows as it booted from the OS already on from my old set-up.I did notice before i got the new mobo, chip and ram,(which i bought from here on OC'ers btw),the same thing had just started to happen as in not playing games but that happened once, then a few days later all was fine.

As for the pc being rebuilt as i say it was new ram, chip and mobo,as in brand new.As for over clocking, everything is as with no over clocking done on it at all.

As for latest drivers i have the latest bios from Gigabyte along with sound drivers,I've also checked the hdd's for any new drivers, but they are up to date also.Have updated the gc with the newest Nvidia whql driver.

The psu is about is sbout 14yrs old though :o.

hope this rambling text helps you to sort my problem out and i would like to say thankyou for your time ;).

Most likely you need to reinstall the OS, transferring a system drive is a recipe for instability. Set the BIOS to it's stable default settings option and same goes for RAM, then reinstall. Then allow Windows to update things first, rebooting when required, recheck for updates until it says it's up to date before installing each of the drivers obtained from Gigabyte's website for your motherboard.

Discharge any static that might be on you by touching the metal on your PC case before disconnecting from mains and delving inside case.

Also check your power cables, especially if the motherboard uses 2 connections that both have been connected. Same goes for graphics, if it has multiple power connections that these are connected and pushed in properly and using the correct connections to the PSU. Make sure graphics card, CPU and memory are seated in properly, also correct torque on CPU cooler, graphics not sagging excessively, check RAM is in correct slots. If it still plays up check you haven't over tightened the screws holding the motherboard in place.

There's some other tests that can be done if the above still doesn't sort it but I'd be surprised if it still does the same after doing all of the above.

Ok I will try what you have suggested. But as stated before I sadly work nights so will try it at the weekend and let you know if it has fixed my problem.Once again I would like to thank you for all your helpful advice .

Well tried all the things yo said to try today,(1st chance I've had all weekend),but it's still doing the same thing.
message is something like

"Nvidia kernel driver has stopped responding and recovered."

The driver is a clean install of the latest whql.
I'm starting to wonder if it's my psu now.It is as i stated before, that it's at least 10/15yrs old.Plus it only has the 4pin atx cpu power plug, where as my mobo needed a 8pin.I did get a 4 to 8pin that also has a separate molex power plug that's plugged in.
Also 1 of my hd's is missing offa my desktop and device manager although it's listed in my bios.
Any advice would be gratefully received.Once again thx for any help you can give me.:)

Thx mate. You have probably just confirmed what I've been suspecting for some time now. What else makes me think it's the psu is the fact that 1 of my power leads is dead too :o.So that being the case what psu would you recommend for my rig,I am thinking of possibly getting a gtx 960/70 too so that I will be running my gtx 650ti as a physx card?I'm also currently running 3 hdd's too.My psu that I'm using at the moment is a cool&quiet 750w.Thx for any advice you can give me,it's very much appreciated :)

Ok sounding like a new PSU then but am not sure how you would calculate how much more of a jump up you would need. I always go for an '80 plus gold' as a minimum standard and fully modular from a decent brand so these would be on my short list.

Ok thx for the help ppl.Tbh I was looking for something a little bit cheaper as money is a little tight atm.I know you shouldn't scrimp on a cheap psu,but as I say money's an issue.I thankyou for your help with this problem.I will look on OC's to see what I can get, also gonna try to figure out what wattage I may need.Again thx for the advice .

An update.I got a new psu coming on fri with any luck :)I plumbed an Areocool 850w integrator. It is the best i could afford for now. It's got all the basics covered and it's bronze certified.Hopefully it will power all my components. Will eventually get a better 1,but for now i hope it will suffice. Will post up when I've got it installed ;).

Well I put in the new psu...........and still the same thing, altough it takes longer now.I've trawled the net for a solution to the "Nvidia driver stopped responding and recovered",but to no avail.I've a fresh install of the driver,I've upped the tdr to 10,but again no joy.So now I'm at my wits end with it all.I feel like putting an hammer through it all now.All this after laying out over £500 on what is basically a new rig,I'm not a happy man to say the least :(.Has any i got ant suggestions to this ridiculous problem?Any help will not fall on deaf ears, but as stated before i'm a night worker so only really use pc at weekends :o
