is there anything similar to wine for linux, for mac to run windows programs on a mac? im considering getting a macbook but theres one program i have which doesnt have a mac equivalent, its not an important program though so it doesnt 100% matter, but if theres a program to run windows programs on a mac thatd be great. dont suggest parralels desktop/vmware, i dont want to have a whole other os running just for one program.

Crossover is probably the most user friendly way of doing what you want assuming the program you want to run will work under it. No experience with Darwine I'm afraid.

development seems to have ceased on Darwine - the page hasn't been updated for absolutely ages - maybe check this out?

Crossover is good WHEN it works.

I find it crashes continuously, but when it does actually work it does it's job very well.
