Hi,
Fairly recent pc build (E8500, 4gb ram etc) and everything was fine, until (I think) I installed java. Since then I got random freeze in IE8 (mouse would move, could alt+tab etc, but webpages / tabs were frozen). I uninstalled the java framework and things seemed to be fine, but the pauses are back. I've had task manager running and the cpu % is generally less than 10.

One weird thing I've noticed, is that after a freeze, if I close the browser down and open it again, my cookies have been deleted.

Any ideas? Running KIS2009, so should be virus free? (fingers crossed).

Almost forgot: Windows Vista Ultimate - SP2 / 64-bit

Any add-ons? My AVG clicksafe / linkscanner thing was playing havoc in ie8, didn't even realise it was installed until I looked at the add-ons list.

Have you checked if any specific services are hitting your HDD/CPU particularly hard? Resource monitor and the ever useful "Go to services" are very handy in that respect. Or you could just try some sysinternals utilities?

yeah looked at add ons and the only things which shouldn't have been there was the java plugin (still there after I uninstalled from control panel?) and BHOCookieHelper or something. I've marked them both has disabled, but freezing still happening. Only other ones on list were kaspersky (been there since i got pc) and adobe flash / pdf.

Think resource monitor will defo be the next place to look (forgot about that - only had vista for a few months), Cheers.
