Hi,

Today I will be reinstalling windows as my computer is so sluggish and no matter how much I try to clean up and get rid of rubbish spyware etc it still slow.

So Ive backed everything up.

My current OS is Win XP Home sp2 latest updates etc. Now the disk I have is Win XP Home edition but its before sp1 all came out, so If I put the disk in when in when the PC starts etc could I install it or would I need another OS to say im upgrading?

Because I dont want to wipe everything of my HDD to find I cant install windows and I would be stuck!

If anyone could shed some light on this matter please?

cheers

Hi,

You could use that disk, however I'm assuming that you'll try to get the OS to SP2 level. In that case you might as well download the Service Pack 2 file and slipstream it. This means that you'll create another copy from your original and the SP2 file which has Service Pack 2 incorporated. This means once you install using this disk, then upon the completion of installation, then your install will already be Service Pack 2. People on this forum will suggest a program called nlite for doing this. I just used a program called autopatcher and it seemed fine.

Cheers,

As for installing XP Home Upgrade version, you will need a legit copy of 98/2000/ME to insert when asked for when installing XP Home via Boot from CD.
