I have an Advent laptop running Windows XP MCE2005, this laptop has a feature that allows users to make a recovery CD, I have done this for backup purposes, however I have now got a pc I would like to install it on, can I or is it piracy or not genuine software?

you should only be recovering to to advent laptop you made a copy of. plus it has the drivers and setup details for that laptop only, i would assume.

it most likely wont work, i worked at the shop that sells advent machines and they're designed for that build of laptop.

The recovery CD with be set up for the laptop (meaning the drivers won't match and would cause lots of issues) but you should be able to (if you can find a copy) use a generic OEM XP MCE disc alongside the code on the COA sticker on the laptop to make it work (computers are setup with a OS install from a single source with a generic manufacturers serial number so the number stuck to the laptop would not have been used to set up the laptop to begin with).
