So after spending 2 days looking for my N550 boot disk, apparently they don't exist!

So I'll make a USB recovery drive, but I have some Qs before I swap my HD for an SSD.

• Windows upgraded itself from 8.1 to 10 - will the boot disk load 10 or 8.1?
• Will it be a clean install, or will it copy everything from my old OS?

Thx!

I wouldn't mind doing mind a clean install on the SSD.
I spent a day backing up everything I want to keep on external HDs so cloning will be annoying now :p

I don't need to carry over 2 years worth of temp files and other assorted crap onto the SSD..
I've never even so much attempted a defrag since buying the laptop 2 years ago.

In that case I would be more tempted to just make a Windows 10 install USB and do a clean install with that. Skip the part where it asks for a product key and it will activate itself once it's done since you already have the free 10 upgrade.

Can I do that within windows or do I need to 'acquire' it somehow?

Never mind, discovered the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool.

I won't get the ASUS bloatware but there's nothing I won't miss!

Use Ccleaner for those pesky temp files. I wouldn't defrag an SSD :D
