Hey,

a friend is trying to do a windows repair install to fix the damaged windows he had previously (would not actually load windows).

But the repair is getting stuck early, when it is detecting hardware and so on (it has 35 minutes remaining).

No matter what happens it constantly hangs, and even leaving for an entire night does not get past this, has anyone any ideas?

Specs are 1GB ram, Sempron 2800 754, X1600XT. windows XP SP2 Pro.

if its damaged, format it, repair install replaces with older files than you've got installed, so is useless

problem is, the files in my documents are needed 100 percent for his business... and they have not been backed up yet.

I was thinking of suggesting installing windows on another drive, drag them off or something..

Or maybe using recovery console to place them on a USB hard drive? is that possible?

If so what is the command once you are inside the recovery console?
