Windows restarts after logging in

Alright that works! I can now load the desktop normally without any problems.

Downloading the latest driver now, I had that driver installed before but hopefully there isn't a problem this time!

Yeah from the looks of things your last install never went too well, what with it being dated from april, fingers crossed this one takes!

Oops, I've almost installed the driver first, do I uninstall it then install windows updates then install the graphics driver?

Yeah I am running 64 bit.

Alright, well I'm in the process of installing the windows updates, then I'll install the Nvidia driver. Then hopefully it fixes the problem so I can go and install Skyrim and play haha.

Fingers crossed this problem is solved!

Uhh..so I installed the windows updates, restarted the computer and it's now restarting as soon as I log in again?

Is there a way to uninstall the windows updates? It must be one of the updates that is causing the problem.

I'm back in safe mode..but for some reason the graphics drivers are installed even though I haven't installed any!

Yeah it must have, I checked the update list and there wasn't any display drivers listed in the update so I have no idea how it got installed.

Ok here is what was installed in the windows update:

Windows is trying to install drivers for the display but says "failed".

I then try to install the new graphics drivers but I get the error "7-Zip: Data error".

Yeah your updates will be installed fine, chances are there were old bits of the driver sticking around on your system and that's what been used to install it again. I'd get the driver on in safe mode so there's no reboot based confusion

Somehow the Nvidia driver and control panel software keeps installing itself, any idea how to stop that or why it's doing that?

I'm uninstalling the drivers once again because somehow they're being installed..so once that's done I'm gonna boot in safe mode and try installing the graphics driver that way. I think windows is detecting the new hardware (graphics card) and automatically installing drivers for it.

Here's what is in program/features:

Is it best to uninstall all of those programs? and will the graphics driver install properly in safe mode?

Alright so..

I'm in safe mode, I've uninstalled the graphics drivers. Then I try and install the new graphics drivers but I get the error " This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware".

Edit: Now it's randomly starting to work and install the new drivers..

I think there's a thing on nvidias site that will auto select a driver for you, try a few different versions until you get one that works

Omg. It's restarting as soon as I enter my password and press enter again.

I seriously have no idea what to do now. I've uninstalled the old/default drivers, booted in safe mode and installed the latest drivers and the problem is still there.

You said at the start that it's something to do with Aero & DX right? is there anything else I can do?

I honestly don't understand how something like this can randomly start happening.

Shall I install old drivers or what?

I can boot in safe mode and it works without any Nvidia drivers. But as soon as I install a graphics driver it restarts like before.

The primary problem is directx crashing as a result of your display driver misbehaving, the reason safe mode and no driver mode work is because you're not using the gpu/aero/dx. You might even have a dodgy directx install.

Is your card overclocked? Do you run any software with an overlay that hooks into the driver like steam/fraps/afterburner? Sometimes AV will also interfere with these things too, and of course we can't rule out hardware failure either (could be the gpu or the mobo).
