Hi, as you my have seen from a few pages down my PC died last week and its been nothing but trouble to get up and running again, I've even had to buy a new Hard Disk as there was too much data to lose to a format! However now I have the new Windows installation up and running I want to get my old 'My Docs' back across from the old install on the old hard drive (now the slave). However my old account had a password on it so I'm now getting a 'D:\Documents and Settings\Chris is not accessible. Access Denied' error. Obviously this is proving a problem! I can understand if the mods want to delete this post as it would be essentially hacking help that I'm asking for! Obviously as it was my acount I know the password but Windows isn't giving me the option to enter it. Are the any utilities or even commands within windows that I can use to gain access (using the password) to this folder. Obviously if there are 'legal' way of doing this they would be prefered to avoid the post being killed!!!

Thanks

Chris.

Right click the old drive and choose Properties then Security.
Click Advanced then Owner. Select your User. Tick the Replace owner on subcontainers and folders.
Take ownership of the drive and files with your new account.

this is what you need to do.

firstly, go into Tools, Folder Options, untick 'Use Simple File Sharing'

this IS how to get the files, and its not illegal or dodgy

if you've encrypted the files, then there is NO WAY of getting them back (they'll appear green in explorer, so if they're not green, you can get into them
