I've just got hold of a student licence for windows server 2003, and want to install a good free antivirus program on it. I have tried avg and avast but they won't install, i assume this is due to licensing and it being a server version of windows.

Are there any antivirus programs out there that i can install for free?

There's no realtime scanning in clamwin, though it is good.

For a reasonbly small fee you could get Nod32 or Symantec AV (think both are about the £20/yr mark)

There are few free AV's which work on 2k3, there is no real technical reason why not, they just detect the OS and refuse to install as they assume if you have a server you're not using it for personal use...

for NOD you will need to get the Business Version to install it on 2003 Server, you can get a 30 day trial if you want to see what it's like

i'll bet that there are Reg-hacks available to make it look like normal XP.

i mean XP x64 edition is basically a rebadged Server 2003 x64.

XP 64 has nothing to do with XP.

Which is why he said it was a rebadged Win 2k3 server x64....

*Some* installers can be worked around - i remember having to edit the install config source for Photoshop CS3 to allow me to install it on 2k3, there may well be a windows hack you can do too.

The OS check is 90% likely to be in the installer and not the application - so see if you can just extract the files and install - this works with windows media player 11 too.
