Hi sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I installed Windows Server 2003 onto an old computer for knowledge purposes and it just gives me an IP conflict error which results in not being able to connect to the internet.

With this it dose knock out internet access to my main computer (both connected via a switch), in which I checked both IP addresses and they are both different, so just wondering if any one can help with this issue.

Thanks

What is the IP address of your desktop? Also, if you look in the event logs at the entry it should tell you the MAC address of the other machine claiming the IP address.

Desktop - 192.168.0.12

How do find the event logs, looked under event log under local machine/system but dont know where to look next.

Also I can see the MAC addresses from my routor and they are all different, none of them the same.

Set the server IP temporarily to something like 192.168.0.250 and run an IP scan on the network to identify anything that might be conflicting. AngryIP might help.

You have something setup on your network with an ip address on 192.168.0.2, or you have another network card in your server with an ip address of 192.168.0.12/1

Do you have any wireless devices on your network that might be occupying that .2 IP address? I'm thinking mobile phones, laptops, tablets that you might have missed out on?

I have only encountered it once, but I have once seen a router that had one IP for the routing and a different one for the web management. What is the 'default gateway' on your computer?
