Howzit guys.

I want to build a server at home. So I have been looking at two different server editions from Microsoft.

Windows Home Server and Windows Server 2008. Now I could get either from work, however which one is the better of the two and why?

Thanks all.

I can get the Server 2008 tomorrow. What exactly am I able to do with it?

Would running the machine on Windows XP Professional FiliZilla be the same thing?

Thanks for the reply!

Mainly as a file server. I wanted a web server too, but I have since found out that I do not have a static IP address and it's not an easy thing to get from the ISP so I can't have a web server.

Looks like FileZilla and XP Pro then. :):(

I have Ubuntu 8.04. Would I need to get a hold of the server edition though?

I have both, Windows XP Professional and Ubuntu 8.04.

Which would be better?

Thank you!

I am a bit of a noobie when it comes to Linux. However I love to learn new Os's though. So, I can use the normal desktop version then for my server setup?

Would I be able to remote access to it. ( Like I can do in Windows and control a pc over a network)

Thank you!

Sorted. Looks like I will install Ubuntu 8.04 and give it a go. The Machine I have is a E2140 with 1GB of DDR 2 ram, so should be okay for a Linux box, maybe a little overkill, but meh. :p
