Windows Server Essentials

Through dreamspark I was able to install Windows Server Essentials (2012 R2) as a guest OS on my server. I had envisaged setting up a domain for my home network to keep all machines backed up and also set up a VPN for remote access but I never got around to it.

I am considering replacing it with a Windows 10 VM and using GPU passthrough to replace the family computer and I can still do everything I do now (mostly running background tasks including metadata scraping and hosting a Plex server) From the point of view of Home automation with an emphasis on AV functionality what features would I lose going this route?
