we have just moved our phyical server to a VPS with FastHosts!

All works perfectly until Windows Server 2008R2 decides to automatically update itself periodically and I cannot for the life of me work out how to change the settings manually - they are all greyed out and unavailable even though I am logged in as as adminsitrator.

BEER TOKENS available to anyone who can either set up our machine the way I want it or who can explain to me how to successfully get into the auto-updates settings so that I can set them to manual please?!?!?

PERFECT!

If the options are greyed out the odds are they are been controlled buy group policy.

Start > Run > Gpedit.msc

Check the following are to see if anything is set;

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update

That is your local policy

to see if anything is being set elsewhere by group policy

either do;

Start > Run > cmd

at the command prompt type gpresult and see if anything is applying to the computer side

or start > run > rsop.msc and see if the policy i mentioned in the first part is set or not.

Failing that it could be a change in the registry but hopefully that should get you sorted.

JOB DONE and many thanks - £5 beer token available - please send me a PayPal INVOICE and I will whizz it over to you!
