right then my mate sam put his server back up yesterday its only a little server that is used for hosting random files and messing around on

first thigs first i know linux quite well now but for the time being its on win nt 5.1
due to him doing something to do with that at collage. Any way i want to vnc over ip tonight so i can get to desktop shall i use vnc or is there a better program to do what im trying to do. Also its thru a router so we will have to open ports but he runs more than one internet machine off that network so vnc if on right port shouldautomaticly go to his server anyway rite

for system specs and other stuff go here http://thebeast.servehttp.com/

i no its a nabby web site

btw im on win xp pro

When you are talking 'server; are you taking Server 2003 or XP as a 'little server'? Because 2003 lets you run 2 concurrent remote desktop sessions for admin purposes ;) far better performing than VNC imho!

Bad bad idea to set up VNC over the web.
Not encrypted.
Setup a VPN connection first.
Forward port 1723 on the router.
Then create an account with dial in access.
Log in using the VPN and then you can just VNC to the local IP and it's nice and encrypted over PPTP.
