Windows Services / Programs to cancle

Right a bit of backgroud.

I have setup a HTPC Intel celeron 540, 4GB RAM, MSI mobo 1TB HDD + 400GB HDD, Asus Xonat DG & ATi 5450 behind the TV.

I want to speed it up a little by turning off the unused windows processes

Does any 1 know which services and applications I can turn off that will not affect the running on the HTPC.

I know i forgot to turn AERO off so that will be a big impact once i get home to turn that off.

I always turn off Windows Defender and Search since I never ever use them.

i was considering putting a £45 60GB SSD into it tbh that would make massive improvements

On a coal fired PC perhaps. I seriously doubt you'll be able to notice a difference after turning all but the necessary processes off, and if you do I'd wager placebo, in HTPC usage

An SSD is the biggest change you can make. OCUK still doing the £60 120GB Kingston V+200

is it worth spending the extra money on an SSD for a HTPC?? it takes about 5 mins to auto boot to XBMC at the mo

brought a OCZ agility 3 60GB last night. Was £47.99 new from a high street store.

Made huge differences. Also stopped other unused windows services.
