Windows showing 50% memory usage, add more?

Hi,

Ive recently built a htpc and fitted 4gb of corsair xms3 ddr3 ram.

I've got the windows gadget showing CPU usage and memory usage.

I'm currently in the process of ripping blu rays CPU usage is low (under 10%) but memory seems to sit at 50%

The computers very quick and doesn't struggle with the basic stuff I'm using it for.

Would you recommend buying another 4gb of memory ( £36) or should the 4gb be plenty?

I can't see that you need more memory.

If memory usage was nearer 100% then perhaps your system would benefit from more but as it's only using 50% now what's it going to do with extra?

Are you using a 64 bit OS with 64bit programs?

I can often be sat at 50% usage purely from many tabs open in opera, like others have said i wouldn't worry about it.

That being said now is the time to buy more if u really wanted as it is very cheap atm. But its not really needed.

with 8gb of ram i use about 18% in windows ( i did however create a custom windows install ) but 50% seems high to me

I'm using windows 7 64bit and have opened a couple of files, makeMKV and sometimes google chrome. In the task bar there are a couple of other bits and pieces that run from start up

if it's £37 for another 4gb then get it at that low price.

you cant go wrong with more ram.
i went from 4gb to 6gb 3 years ago and wouldn't go back to 4gb again.

If you were regularly using 70%+ then I think you'd need to upgrade. But 50% while ripping blu-rays etc then you're fine.

Thanks for all the replies. Will leave it at 4gb for now I need some new fans so will use the money for them instead!
