Windows shows incorrect hdd space

I've put my vertex 2 60gb in AHCI mode and its free space isn't correct for some reason. It should have around 40GB free and yet it shows in windows only 15GB free
Any idea whats wrong? maybe i need to re-format in IDE mode?

Also with AHCI there is some delay during boot in DOS mode as it loads up the AHCI interface. Is it really worth it going AHCI perfomance wise?

The first question is why do you think it should have 40gb free?

Reformatting will only change the available space if you left unpartitioned space the first time around. Changing to IDE mode will not affect the partitions.
