Hey guys, I'm at work and have been asked to try and connect a laptop with windows 7 sp3 to our server running windows small business server 2008, I haven't actually had a look at it yet, but apparently there's a compatibility issue for W7 SP3, anyone know if it's possible to connect this laptop to the server without rolling back service packs

Win7 hasn't had SP2, let a lone SP3... But if you mean XP, then yes, you should be able to roll back SP's. They are usually listed in the Add & Remove Programs list.

Haha yeah after some research, it's still on Windows 7 sp1.. I was told service pack 3, which perplexed me a little bit but I didn't question it too much due to the fact I don't actually use Windows 7 at home or work, I still love my vista ultimate :P so yeah, apparently Sp1 has a compatability issue with windows small business server 2008

Have to say, in all the experience I've had with SBS 2008 and Win7 SP1, I've never had any compatibility issues in connecting them. By connecting them, I presume you mean via domain connection?

On the Win7 machine have you tried going to http://connect or jsut doing a standard domain connection?

Just trying to log on to a standard domain, nothing complicated, the person who set the laptop up originally seems to have lost the password to it, so I haven't even had chance to have a look at it as yet, he's trying to find the password to log on to the local machine so I can have a go at connecting it to the network

If that fails then just do a format and reinstall? Also, what flavour of Win7 is it? Starter, Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate etc ?

Home premium for some reason, bit strange in a work environment but shouldn't make a difference, and I don't know if we can find the disks that came with it, even though it's a brand new laptop

That should allow to you domain connect, unless there is something seriously borked with your SBS lol!
