windows sp2 firewall

I just updated to sp2 after formatting, and although I disabled the security center through services, the firewall is still on, the buttons on and off are greyed out and I can't turn it off. What can I do? I have firewall and av and I don't want this on.

click on the firewall option in control panel then disable there

I can't, it won't let me, as I said, the buttons are greyed out. and it says "for security reasons, some settings are controlled by group policy"

Disconnect from the net. Install new Firewall. Re boot. Job done.
Nuff said.

Re-enable the service you killed then try turning it off.
