Windows swapping between Aero and Basic

I have no clue what is going on but my desktop seems to be switching between Aero and Basic modes by itself randomly.

I have onboard graphics disabled and I'm thinking this might explain the odd infrequent black screen glitch in games.

Has anyone else come across this in Windows 7? I'm thinking it's the recent driver update to 9.18.13.1090.

If your using MSI Afterburner (and a few other similiar apps also have such a feature) there is a hot key that swaps between them you might be pressing accidentally.

Also winsat.exe can cause issues with aero mode when it does system analysis updates iirc scheduled for 2am on a Sunday or something - its worth disabling it.

Yes, I'm using AB... I'll try disabling it/updating (ooops I have an old version anyhow!).

Actually I was wrong about MSI Afterburner - its not a hotkey for changing aero mode its if you press the hotkey for video capture whilest on the desktop AB disables aero for video capturing - pressing it by accident will toggle aero.

Check the folder AB is set to video capture to if its configured and see if theres several videos from the desktop in there if so thats probably whats causing it.
