Hi there,

I've had this same problem 3 times now, and the only way i could fix it was by reinstalling windows. Totally randomly while booting up, it'll tell me that 'c:\windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt', and will stop there. Booting up the recovery console I managed to look in the folder, there was a file called system.sav so i assumed it was corrupt, that was until the 3rd time it happened, when it occurred to me that the file it said it was looking for didn't have an extension. So I made a copy of the file and renamed it without the extension, and then was kinda suprised to find that on restarting, the windows installation program started without me setting it going! Couldn't stop it, but I didn't mind since I was going to do that anyway :P

Anyhoo, basically I think the system.sav file is just a backup of the system settings used for the windows installation, something's making my computer think I've got no windows installation so tries starting up the install program, but finds there's no config file there. Copying the file just allowed it to continue installing windows. Question is, why's it trying to run the windows installion and what can I do to fix it? Hope that made sense, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
