The time at the very bottom right of my screen isn't keeping up with the real correct time. I synchronise it with the windows server, then later on in the day it reads half an hour behind.

Anyone have any ideas why this is happenning?

Bios battery?

yup

replace the battery inside the pc (backup bios settings first if you don't know how to set them up..)

Alrite, would the bios battery be the most likely cause, or are there any other possible causes?

If so, how would I backup my bios settings? And is it necessary to backup the bios first?

not really tbh, did you build the pc yourself?

as long as you know the boot device order, memory/overclocking settings, everything else is pretty much standard usually..

Yeah built myself.

I haven't tweaked the bios though, all the settings and timings are standard, so I guess there isn't much to lose? If so, should I be okay if without backing up, as I know the boot device order and basic settings.

Which brings me to ask, would ocuk's main competitor stock the cmos batteries?

cmos battery is just a watch type battery well wider and flatter but should be easy to get hold of the large highstreet electronics component shop should have them

id imagine the cmos will hold the info long enough for you to swap the battery if you have one there ready to swap over

if you havent tweaked the bios and it looses the settings when you put in the new battery load the optimal settings, you may need to detect the hard drives but most bioses these days have an auto detect function so no need to remember cylinders etc lol

This was happening to me for about a week, I would set the time and in a couple of hours it would be 30 mins behind and then stay that far behind. Most strange, it even cured itself?!
Maybe you could wait it out, but I was suspecting bios battery, but I never got around to replacing it before it fixed itself.

I work in a Tesco and we sell the batteries for my motherboard so I think the nearest supermarket will do.

Take the battery with you though, it really helps when identifying the right one. :)

Cheers guys, when the time comes I'll take the battery with me to the store.

Funnily enough, mine seems to have cured itself too! I know for a fact it was lagging yesterday as I had to reset it twice. Today there seems to be no problems whatsoever?!
