Got a mate who has a MAC, i have a PC. Putting aside who is best for the moment, can i open her digital pictures from her camera on my PC, as RAW, and somehow with software or firewire or IEEEE cable, get them across to her mac so her mac can read them.

Or are the files locked to windows format as soon as they touch the PC?

Files for the most part are vendor neutral, doesn't really matter which OS you have.

Though if it is a new camera there might not be RAW support for it in Mac OS X.

Plug the camera in to the Mac and try it out.

Providing the OS is up to date and the camera isn't bleeding edge, I'd bet it's supported with no additional software.

If a RAW format is not compatible with Mac OS X, you could try to convert the file with Adobe DNG converter. Adobe is much faster with updating their RAW database than Apple (in most cases).
