Hi,

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. Basically after about 20mins of windows use, one of my hdds clicks, sometimes i hear it and sometimes i dont, after this point the HDD activity light is constantly on and windows freezes every 30-40 seconds then becomes active again, then freezes again e.t.c

Theres no dogy processes running or anything so im unsure what it can be, theres no power settings on that shoudnt be.

The thing is this happened to one of my other hdds a few weeks ago, so i dissmissed it as a faulty HDD and unplugged it, now its happeing again

The HDDs are about 2-3 years old, So do you think one of them could be nearing the end of its days (again)? Or could it be a psu problem or something, all SMART monitors on the drives show no errors.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Jack

Yup like others have said sounds like a failing HDD. I had a p[roblem similar to that a while back. Windows would run fine for a while, but it would either crash, or freeze or the drive would power down. No amount of formatting would solve it as it wasn't a problem with the discs themselves but the PCB on it. It eventually died a horrid death and I threw it in the bin lol.

But yeah back up your data and get a new drive asap.
