After the most recent windows update my pc has been pretty much wiped, all the files are still there on my SSD, but it seems there is a problem when booting? There is nothing installed, all my desktop items are gone, and most of my programs are not there anymore.

I don't know what to do. EVERYTHING in my documents is gone, as well as downloads, all recent files are gone as well. I still believe everything is still there because my SSD is full, but maybe windows is having problems loading it all?

I might not be making sense but i'm really panicking because i have important work related stuff on my pc.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Power off and use a live Linux USB and see if you can find the files as well as access them, then try back them up.

As for the Windows problem, does it still say your account name? Is the App and Features list completely empty?

Most likely you are not on the right windows account that all your stuff is on

Go to
C:\Users

See if you have duplicate or account named slightly differently

If it'll boot into Windows, you can use TreeSize free to check where all the space is used - might tell you where your files are. If you find them, I'd suggest plugging in an external drive and backing them up; just in case!

Assuming that you are running W10, holding Shift when you click on Reboot, will start the OS in advanced boot - and you'll have a repair option in there - that should used the Windows.old folder to restore things back prior to the update.

Never had an update wipe everything, so can't help you there - I don't even think an 'sfc /scannow' will help you...

Good luck!

windows updates now reinstall a clean version of windows essentially and then moves all your old data across.
it seems your data didn't get moved maybe you can manually move the user folder across if you can find it
