Windows Update Auto Reboot?

Yup, that's the most stupid feature of SP2.

What if you have been working all day on a very important document and Windows just goes and reboots the PC? (Lets say this document was done in notepad... just so I can avoid everyone saying "there's a recovery feature in Word")

Go to control panel and then select Automatic updates.

Change the highlighted option to:-

Notify me but don't automatically download and install them.

Problem solved :D

It's not solved all the way. Frequently I'll run Windows Update and let it do its thing (it annoys the crap out of me that it can't be minimized but that's another story). By the time it's done working I'll usually be engaged in something else on the machine. I will prefer to continue working rather than stop mid-stream and reboot. Periodically those alloying "you need to restart your rig" popups will appear. Ignoring them is not good. If you let the machine idle for long enough it will automatically reboot. This has caused me to lose significant work that I wanted it to do while I was at lunch or overnight when I left. there's not much I can do. Some lengthy things cannot be stopped for a reboot. It's a hassle that I can't tell it to stop bugging me. I just want aqn update system that updates things gracefully. I don't want something that feels the need to "get in my face," so to speak.

Hit Win Key and D then it should minamise it all

There's a setting in gpedit to change the "Re-prompt for restart wth scheduled installation" time.

You can also use it to enable "No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Updates installations"
