Was not sure where to post this one. Dons feel free to move if needed.
So while its fresh in my brain. Was streaming channel 4 through a laptop connected to a very old panasonic TV when the screen blinked and the sound stopped working.
(Normally use an nvidia shield but no channel 4 app)
This was about 10.30pm today. Scratches head checked control panel sound no panasonic TV only the realtek device which I disable. hmmm. rebooted still the same problem.
I know I'll check windows update. That normally bricks things like graphics drivers and O yes windows update has updated some intel graphics drivers lovely.
Now the display is fine its just I get no sound. Its a dell laptop also old, about 7 years and when I loaded the Dell update app it installed a load of drivers including intel graphics drivers.
Same problem. Device manager was not showing any problems either. I did notice in device manager/sound Intel Display audio. I rolled it back no joy.
In the end I uninstalled Intel Display Audio from device manager/sound and rebooted. It re-apperaed but was on a 2024 version and this worked.
Hopefully this painfull troubleshoot will help somebody get their sound back.

Good idea to help someone else fix their issue if it arises.

Put your TV model and other hardware including Intel I/O hardware (e.g., Iris 630) to make the thread more prominent in search results.
