windows update down?

Tried a couple of times this evening to get the latest updates, but it just sits there saying "checking for the latest updates for your computer" ad then you get an error message after several minutes.

Anyone else having problems tonight?

Nope works fine for me. What version of IE are you using? I've just used the new IE7 and Windows Update ran fine. Clear the cache and try again? If that doesn't work look through the Windows Update troubleshooter/help for any articles about the process freezing where it freezes for you.

i'm still using IE6 and that's why i thought i'd use the updater to pickup IE7 + any other security fixes

Ah I don't think Microsoft will push IE7 through Windows Update until November. Your PC shouldn't pick IE7 up from the site. If you want IE you'll have to download and install it yerself.

I've just got IE7 through the update

(Maybe because I've been using RC1 for the last month or so?)

Strange. According to the 08:56 post on this blog, MS are planning to do this in stages. Perhaps using the RC1 explains why for you?
