Windows update futile

Hi all,

I've just got my new build up and running, and Windows 7 is rampantly updating itself. Or at least it's trying to. I've got to the point where it wants to install 208 updates all at once, but every time it gets to the end, when I restart it says the update has failed and it is reverting changes. Because it's 208 updates, this cycle takes ****** AGES to go through.

Does anybody know how I can make it update successfully?

Cheers

When you get that many updates it is normally, IME, because you are getting updates to updates. I tend to sort them into date order and do the newest ones first which potentially negates the need to do some of the older ones.

Install the important updates 25 a time, then after they are all done do the recommended ones. That's what I have to do whenever I do a fresh Windows 7 install on my PC or I get the exact same issue as you.

So far I've tried telling it to let me choose which updates to install (was expecting some option box to come up, but it just went straight on to install all 208 updates and failed), then going into the ticklist of updates and selecting only the first 5, and it STILL tried and failed to install all 208 updates. Is there any way I can get it to install anything other than all 208 updates?

1) Disable Windows Update
2) Use http://www.autopatcher.net/forum/
3) Enable Windows Update
